<p>Sugar is sugar is sugar. So it is but is there any difference in the type of sugar that you and your family ingest? Honestly, not really. Your body actually digests all this in the same way but the problem is that there is a lot of sugar that is incorporated into all the foods we eat which puts a tremendous strain on the system as a whole.
<p>Of course, some say that the more natural sugars such as fructose are easier to digest and this may be true since fruit in general is good for your body but almost every other is highly processed and therefore would fall into a similar category as cane sugar or corn sugar or syrup. Ultimately, it is sugar and your body must use insulin to break it down.
<p>The increase of sweetners in the American diet is one of the reasons why the instances of diabetes and hypoglycemia have increased so greatly. While we all know that there is sugar in the ice cream and chocolate cake we eat most people are unaware of how much sugar is actually contained in many of the food that we wouldn&#8217;t even think of and what this is doing to our bodies.
<p>Other good example include jellies that are sweet because of the sugar content. However what might surprise you more is that many of the peanut butters and bread products sold in the grocery stores have a high sugar content and could easily meet the recommended daily allowance set forth by the FDA for a child&#8217;s whole week of sugar recommendations. We don&#8217;t really notice the sugar in these food items because they are considered to be non sweet grocery items and occupy the same category as crackers and related bread items.

Another clever way of disguising sugar is by using different names such as fructose, high fructose corn syrup, sugar, dextrose, maltose, glucose, galactose and this is only the beginning. Seems most any word that is a sugar reference ends with ose. Learning to moderate your intake of these common sugar loaded foods will really improve your overall health. What really matters here is the reduction of sugar intake that will affect your health.

<p>The magic of happiness:<br />Happiness seems to have magical powers. Though not proven scientifically, but happiness can result to longer life, better health, resiliency and good performance among people. According to Professor Ed Diener, University of Illinois, in The Science of Happiness, there is evidence that happy people live longer, nine years on the average, than depressed and unhappy people.
<p>The problem is that happiness cannot be measured. Health and fitness can be generally measured by the BMI (body mass index) and other medical indicators like blood pressure, cholesterol, uric acid, sugar levels, etc. On the other hand, social scientists wanting to measure the degree of happiness among people can only rely on the simple question, &#8220;how happy are you?&#8221;
<p>The answers they get, of course, vary between different people but they consider these as valid, though not perfect. Another researcher, Professor Daniels Kahneman determined that……&#8221;once a person has a home, food and clothes, extra money does not seem to make him much happier.&#8221;
<p>What makes man happy?<br />This question was posed in a Happiness and Fitness forum and the reactions given are a study for social scientists to look into. Of the thirty or so who responded, the following make them happy (arranged in the order of their importance):
<p>First:<br />- Sex;<br />Second:<br />- Woman they love, respect and get along with;<br />Third:<br />- Beer;<br />- Love and Respect;<br />Fourth:<br />- Feelings of machismo;<br />- Sports<br />- Food<br />Fifth:<br />- Space and time for himself;<br />- Personal achievement<br />- Good health<br />Sixth:<br />- Money;<br />- Good friends,<br />- Video games, <br />- Laughing at their stupid mistakes, <br />- A comfortable home<br />- God.
<p>The forum did not indicate the cross-sectional backgrounds of those who answered the question and their number cannot, by any means, be considered the general perception of what makes man happy. But it does make an interesting revelation. For one, it is difficult to argue about sex being a determinant of what can make man happy. And the other is that, basically, what makes man happy are those that satisfy his feelings, his senses, not the material things around him.
<p>It is worrisome, though, that God is no more important than video games, as a one of those things that make man happy.
<p>Passing shot:<br />The same study indicates that nothing can make a grouch giggle all of the time.
<p>I recently read a book, The Secret. Well, what is in there is not really a secret but considered so because after all these years, man has missed the very essential truth in happy living. Well, read the book to find out. It is really worth the time. </p>
